Not a maggot......

I haven’t talked much about the kiddos in a while, so here are a few funnies from the previous weeks.

Lily: Mrs. Thompson, Livy called me a maggot
Mrs. Thompson: Go tell Livy to come here (we were on the playground)
(Enter Livy)
Mrs. Thompson: Olivia, did you call Lily a maggot?
Livy: I did not call her a maggot….I called her a twit!
(Mrs. Thompson drops jaw and…without laughing…takes care of problem!)

So today we talked about capital M. It seems a lot of the funniest stuff happens when I am teaching capital letters and listening to the kids input of what starts with these letters. We did the whole name thing and then I called on a girl that I KNEW her dads name was Michael.

Mrs. Thompson: KayKay…what is your daddys name?
KayKay: Big Mike

I laughed so hard….may have been a moment you just had to be there, but if you could just see this little girl…you would understand!

We have been singing a song with the 50 states in it, in preparation for our 4K promotional assembly. It goes quite fast and I KNOW the kids have no idea what they are saying. I brought in a map of the USA and explained the 50 state thing and have done my best to point to the states as we say them. Today in the capital M lesson, I asked them to name the states that start with M…I believe I got three. Not bad for 5 year olds! THEN…Ashlynn raised her hand and I called on her and this is what I got:

Mutuckyuisiana!!! The part of the song that says, Kentucky, Louisiana….somehow she through and M in there and mushed it all together. She just KNEW that was the name of an M state! HILARIOUS!

Must run….time to clean up play dough!! UGH!

Until next time,
Sam

What a week!

I can't believe it is already April 24th! Seriously! Where does the time go? It has been a pretty good week so far (aside from a little family drama). It was my early week which means I get to leave at about 3:15 and I don't have to step one foot on that playground in the afternoon. I thoroughly enjoy the weeks like that.....we are on a 4 week rotation.

Yesterday, Clint was off. He has been taking his off day on Thursdays. No...its not Saturday, but it is still most enjoyable. We had big plans to get home and go wash our cars together...NOPE...didn't happen. We hit a huge lazy day and played the Xbox! We are totally hooked on this game called peggle. It is really quite fun and a can waste time if you aren't careful. I made cashew chicken for dinner...so yummy! Tonight is the Rose City Parade. Thomasville is the city of roses and always has a festival in April. Clint has to cover it for the paper, so I will tag along! I love nights like this when I get to hang out with my wonderful husband!

School has been good. The kids are enjoying the warmth and I am enjoying the fact that jacket season is over. That was so annoying having to bundle them up 5 times a day. Some will still ask if they need their jacket to which I reply..."No, it is 90 degrees outside" and my inside voice says "are you kidding me???"

My sister Danielle is graduating from college in a mere 21 days! She is SO ready to be done and I know how that feels! I have thought so much about the college graduating class of 2009 and how scary of a time it is for them. With all of this "economic turmoil" that we are in, finding a job, with no experience, is a tough one! (finding a job with experience is a tough one!) I am so PROUD of Danielle though. She got a job! SHE got a job! She will be moving to Denver, CO for a 1 to 2 year internship/real job. She will be working at the Denver Rescue Mission with homeless (and as I type this, I think I have already mentioned this...oh well). Anyway...I am so thrilled for her, but so sad to think that I wont see her until Christmas! But now that I think about it...I haven't seen her since last Christmas! Thank God for Facebook!

Clint and I will be driving up to Toccoa Falls to see her graduate. I will be taking off a Friday to make the trip. Sadly...it is without pay....because didn't you know NOTHING personal can happen in a teachers life from August to June. NOT one personal day...NOT ONE!!! Booo....! But, it will be worth it to get to spend THREE whole days with my husband and him not have to be at work...who cares if most of it will be in the car! It will be worth it to see my sister graduate and to marvel at her accomplishments. It will be worth it to see my family...if just for a little while!

Life is just pushing along. No news on the job front for Clint! Still praying for our future and waiting on pins and needles to see what God is going to do.

Praying for all of my adopting friends out there. Not sure if any of them read my blog (doesn't compare to their amazing stories), but I read theirs, and if you have time, you should check them out. Go to my profile and see the blogs that I am following. They are all great.....otherwise I wouldn't be following them! :) God is doing amazing things out there and I am so glad to get to see a small glimpse of that through these blogs!

Alrighty....

Until next time,
Sam

10 Things!

In the midst of some irritating times I am facing at work and with people that I work with, I have decided to look to the bright side. Since dealing with an egg thief, a bossy butt and a prideful punk (3 meanies I work with) on a daily basis, I feel as though my scope is all messed up! I feel as though I am focusing on things that I shouldn't and wasting my time worrying about things and people I can't change. So...here is to my 10 things I am thankful for!

1. My Jesus! Without Him...I am nothing! I am so thankful for His neverending Love and protection, His unbelieveable amounts of Grace and Forgiveness and His constantly open arms. I am in awe daily of His love for me and am anxiously awaiting His return for me.

2. My Clint! Oh my wonderful husband! We are one and a half months away from being married one whole year! He means the world to me and I am so blessed to know that I mean the world to him. He is never afraid to tell me that fact. We don't get to see each other as much as we'd like, but when we do, we have a blast! Clint loves me for me, accepts me as me (good and bad) and is an awesome example of how husbands are to love their wives! I am so proud of him and will love him always!

3. My Family! I adore my family and am so lucky to be a part of it! I have 3 sisters that amaze me in 3 complete different ways! My parents (all 4 of them) are awesome and not a day goes by that I don't know they love me and are proud of me! I have awesome in-laws and am very pleased with the no-pressure approach our relationships have. I have tons of extended family also that make me smile! I am so blessed!

4. My Friends! Since I have moved to Georgia last May, I can honestly say, I have made 2 friends! TWO! If you know me, then you know that this kills me! I love to be surrounded by people, especially people I can call friend! I have to remind myself daily that just because I moved away from all of my great friends...they are still my friends...tried and true friends! I am so so thankful for each one of them and what they mean to me.

5. My Students! I would put my job...but these kids are my job. A full time, round the clock, job. I find myself thinking about them more and more. I know it is because I have reached the official 30 day mark of school days left in this school year. I have days that I absolutely wish away and am ready to have over before they even get going. I really do. But then there are days that I am utterly amazed at how the human brain works. These children are SO smart that thinking about how smart they are makes me a little emotional! I love them and when May 29th comes...I am going to be a MESS! I will miss them and I will pray for them!

6. Lifes little luxuries! Car, cable, internet, DVD, Xbox 360...etc.

7. Diet Coke, Coffee, and Kool-aid.

8. Facebook and Blogging.

9. America and Vacations with family.

10. Football and Fireworks.

There...Now I feel better! Thanks!

Until next time,
Sam

It is Thursday already?!?!?

My how time flies...what's that saying..."time flies when you are having fun?" I don't know how fun it has really been, but time has been flying!

I almost had a nervous breakdown yesterday due to my class and their consistant need to potty. It has been a game of "copy-cat" and I am SICK of it. I am the only preschool class that doesn't have a bathroom. We have to leave our room and go to the preschool hallway in order for them to take care of business. Rediculous! I finally shot an email to all of my parents and reminded them of the need to have their children use the bathroom before coming to school. So far so good today! (I know it seems trivial, but in my world, it was an issue!)

Clint and I have two scheduled vacations for the summer! I am SO excited! He is able to use more vacation days in the summer months due to the absence of high school sports (PTL!)! So...one week in Orlando in June and another week of traveling in July. July we are headed to Nashville for my good friends Amber and Donalds wedding, then to visit some friends in North Carolina who just had a baby, then we will finish off our trip with a Braves game in Atlanta!

We had checked the prices of tickets for the Braves game and found that on Tuesdays you can get two tickets for 8$! Good price....HORRIBLE seats! I was willing to deal with the horrible seats, but my sports guru husband was less than thrilled. I did some searching and found a good deal on ebay!!! woohoo! FOUR tickets with GREAT seats for $49! Gonna try to find a couple to accompany us with the two extra tickets!

Clint informed me two nights ago that he has already reserved our tickets for the UGA game in September. This will be our third annual trip to see the Dawgs! They will be playing Arizona State! Should be fun!

As hard as times are and as much as Clint's job drives me crazy, I am SO blessed! We are so blessed! God is so good to us and so faithful and I am incredibly thankful!

I hope you have a fantastic week and an enjoyable weekend!

Until next time,
Sam

Rain rain go away....

Yesterday was a dark and dreary day! I managed to take my class outside earlier in the morning to make sure we got some outside play time. Days without outside playtime are like days without coffee...dangerous!

The sky finally opened up about 3:00. It was quite scary! When we have rainy days the kids stay inside with me until 3:45, at which time we combine with the other preschool and 5K classes in the preschool classrooms located in the preschool hallway. So there we were, the kids were playing nicely, several children were picked up to go home and I was down to 6 kids. About 3:20 the preschool secretary comes in and says, "Mrs. Thompson, get your kids and head to the preschool building." I said okay and we began to clean up the toys. I was unaware of the seriousness of the situation obviously because she had to come back and tell me that it needed to happen immedietly. So...we grabbed their bags and off we went. No tv in preschool, no radio and the internet was down. My life was in the hands of the administration. I kept waiting for them to tell us to assume the "tornado posisiton." I knew it was serious because my husband called me twice and my mom (3 1/2 hours away) called me. (My dad called me about 7:30 to see if all was well and he NEVER calls!) Cell phones were ringing, parents were rushing and I just knew I was going to hear the "train a comin". Thankfully we never had to get in the hallway! I was able to leave at 4:20ish and made it home at about 5:45 (about 45 minutes longer than normal) due to traffic, rain and accidents! I was thrilled to have made it home!

The sad part was that I had a perfect plan for my Monday evening! I was to leave work by 4:00, get home by 5:oo, throw together a fruit salad, grab my Bible study stuff and be at Bible Study by 5:45. Didn't quite happen! I knew I wouldn't make it home in time to fix the salad I was to bring, not to mention make it to the study. So...I called my fearless husband! He volunteered to make the salad and deliever it to the correct place! Such an awesome man!

I was able to enjoy a Monday evening with my husband because the newspaper went to print early. Meaning...he was home at 7:00!!! (he usually gets home at 11 p.m.) Woohoo!

As of now....I am about to head to teach my 6th grade class! I seriously could actually fall asleep, so I hope they are ready for me!

Later,
Sam

Happy Easter!

Well...here I sit. I hear the Atlanta Braves playing on the television, the dryer drying my last load of clothes for the weekend, and my dear husband snoring on the couch next to me. This is not what I imagined my first married Easter to be, but its all good! We went to church this morning and taught children's church. I had been preparing all week for it to be a large group. Large group it was! There were 30 4 and 5 year olds! NO way was I going to do a craft with a group that large and only 15 chairs to pull up to the tables...NO way. We managed to do our lesson and watch a Veggietales Easter video before the mommies and daddies came!

My in-laws will be here in about an hour. They are going to our church Passion Play with us! We are so glad to get to see some family on Easter. It has been really odd to not have that thus far, so I am really thankful. I really do love my in-laws, so it makes it that much better!

As most of you know, (the two of you that read this) I am praying that I will not have to teach 4K next year! I have been praying pretty much since day one that something would come open for the next school year for me to step right into. It is looking like that is going to happen, although I am not 100% sure and wont say anything until I know for sure. With that possible change to come, I will have to come up with a clever title for this blog. As I look back through this blog, I am SO GLAD I took the few minutes to write these funny things down. I have decided to continue blogging as a journal...so you never know what you may get!

I have been sucked into the land of reading other blogs since about December. You see, I have this friend. My friend and her husband have been approved and waiting in the land of adoption since last July. She started a blog in December and since then I have gone from one blog to another reading stories about people just like her. Some have gotten their babies, some have been matched and some are still waiting for their CALL! Since venturing into that part of bloggy land, my heart has been softened. So far the main thing I have learned is that everyone has a story and that I have to be so careful what I say to people. Words can hurt even when not intended to. I don't know the things going on in others lives and I should be a little more compassionate with people. I am SO grateful that I have begun keeping up with some of these amazing people. I am sitting on the edge of my seat waiting to hear good news from them!

I think that is all for now! Oh yeah...one more thing. My sister Danielle (21) is graduating from Toccoa Falls College in May. Her major is Family and Children's ministries. Her passion is homeless people and seeing them in transition. She worked last summer in Denver Colorado at the Denver Rescue Mission. Well...she has just received a job for one year with Americorp at the Denver Rescue Mission. I am SO proud of her and am thrilled that she gets to step right into something she loves and something she will do so well at!

Alrighty, must straighten up a little before the fam gets here!
Much Love,
Sam
